Colossians 4:6

There are times when we know exactly what we want to say, but hesitate to say it. Then there are times when we finally say it…and immediately start trying to soften it, explain it away, or take it back.

Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.

Maybe they took it the wrong way.

Maybe I should’ve just kept quiet.

But sometimes the issue isn’t what you said. Maybe you just need to work on how you said it. There is maturity in learning to communicate with both clarity and grace.

You don’t have to be harsh to be firm.

You don’t have to be disrespectful to be direct.

And you don’t have to apologize for every truth that makes someone uncomfortable.

If you were wrong, correct it.

If your delivery was wrong, adjust it.

If you learn differently, grow.

But don’t keep retreating from what you genuinely mean simply because you’re worried about how it will be received.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. Just make sure you can say it with grace and love!
