Proverbs 20:5

We hear it often: You don’t need closure. What happened is your closure. Just move on. And sometimes, that’s absolutely true. But sometimes understanding matters.

When something ends unexpectedly—a relationship, friendship, opportunity, job, or even a long-standing connection—it’s not always unhealthy to have questions.

Sometimes the question isn’t, “How can I get this back?” The question is simply “What happened, and what can I learn from it?”

There’s a difference between needing answers to remain attached to something and seeking understanding so you can heal from it.

Closure won’t always come. People won’t always explain themselves. And even when they do, their explanation may not satisfy every question.

But when an honest conversation or greater understanding is available, it can help us recognize patterns, take accountability where necessary, extend grace where needed, and move forward with wisdom.

Don’t chase closure at the expense of your peace. But don’t shame yourself for needing clarity either.

Sometimes healing means accepting what you’ll never know. Yet other times, healing comes through finally understanding what you needed to know.

Either way, ask God for the wisdom to know the difference.

Proverbs 20:5 - The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
