Jeremiah 17:7-8

This morning while riding through a city, my husband pointed something out.

There’s hardly any grass. The yards have rocks. The landscaping around the shopping centers has rocks. And yet, there are trees, bushes and plants that are very much alive.

But…..They’re growing.

And it made me think…

Sometimes we look at where we are in life and decide, “I can’t grow here.”

It doesn’t look like good ground.

It doesn’t look like what we’re accustomed to.

It doesn’t look like the environment we thought we needed in order to flourish.

But maybe we’re judging the environment by what growth has always looked like to us.

Everything doesn’t need the same conditions to grow.

And sometimes God will allow us to be planted in unfamiliar, uncomfortable, even unlikely places and show us that we can still flourish there.

The environment may look different. The resources may look different. The way you have to grow may even look different.

But different doesn’t automatically mean deficient.

So before you decide that where you are can’t produce anything good, give it some time.

You might discover that what looked like the wrong environment is actually giving you exactly what you need for this season of your growth.

You can grow here.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 - But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream….and never fails to bear fruit.
